Members are invited to join an informal conversation with a local literacy leader.
In this live webinar, participants will explore what decodables are, how to use them, and how to maximize their impact. The focus will be on building decoding fluency, early reading behaviors, and incorporating vocabulary, writing, and comprehension work into daily instruction with decodables. Join us for Beyond Retelling: Navigating Complex Text with Mitchell Brookins on Thursday, March 23, 2023 @ 7 PM CST. How do teachers support students in navigating grade-level, complex texts? It requires a shift in mindset, planning, and practice. In this session, presenter Mitchell Brookins will provide instructional routines related to fluency, vocabulary, syntax, and verbal reasoning.
Participants will learn how to plan and deploy teaching strategies that develop students' capacity to go BEYOND RETELLING and move toward a deeper understanding of complex texts.

Fluency is essential for skillful and motivated reading but is often misunderstood. Fluent reading is NOT fast reading! This session defines reading fluency and clarifies the link between fluency and comprehension. The role of fluency assessments and effective fluency instruction will also be discussed.
